I started my journey Thursday evening checking in at the airport around 8:15. I found my gate and watched some videos to kill time but that only burned two hours. At 9:50 I thought I should look for something to eat but the only thing I saw was a gift shop and pinkberry so I ended up having a pineapple pinkberry. After I ate I went back and sat down and around 10:40 or so they began boarding.
Luckily they started from the back of the plane so I got to board early. I got settled with my headphones, battery pack, and my phone so I was good to go. I continued watching my show and it seemed like it was taking a long time to take off. Apparently we were a little late but I didn’t even notice. All I could think was I’m on vacation!! Once we got airborne everything was good. We were served a meal about two hours after we took off so that was around 1:30 or so. Sounds weird eating a meal that late but I was hungry and I wasn’t complaining. After I ate I tried to sleep but between getting my arm bumped by people going down the aisle or my neck getting crinked I got very little sleep. We arrived in Nadi around 6am.
I cleared customs, picked up my board bag, and found VJ who was going to transport us to the Sofitel for breakfast, then to the dock later on. Man I should have taken some pictures of that hotel. It was really nice!! And the food was amazing!! They had a pancake bar, omelette bar, and various other types of food. Man it was good but for $25 it better be… We stayed there for about two hours then we went to the dock where we were transported to the island.
When I got on the boat my intention was to sit closer to the front and in the middle. Well that didn’t happen and I got drenched on the way there. Good thing I had the raincover for my bag. That really helped out a lot!! I haven’t checked my laptop yet but I’m hoping that it’s still working.
When we got to the island we were greeted by the staff, given a fruit drink, then given the low down on how things work. It was very informative but I really wanted to go surf. I got my bag, set my board up, and was ready to go but I found out that we were going to cloudbreak till 3… I went to go eat then I turned in my waiver form and checked on WiFi. I gotta say the connection so far isn’t that bad but I haven’t really done any research which I will have to test later. I tried to take a nap to kill time since we had about two hours before we surfed. I couldn’t sleep so I responded to texts and emails and started blogging. Take a look at the room!
When we went to cloudbreak at 3 oh man that place was intense!! To be honest I was terrified and it was maybe 4-6 occasional 7. Since I had been sick, didn’t get much sleep on the plane, and didn’t know the break I played it safe and chilled in the inside as I always do. There were some really fun and fast waves that were awesome and I “think” I got barreled for a short second but I don’t know for sure. The wind was so intense that you just got a ton a spray in your face while taking off. We surfed for about 2 or 3 hours then we went back to the bank to get dinner.
We had chicken, fish, risotto, cauliflower soup, and some vegetables which were just ok. All in all the meal was really good! We sat and talked for a bit then I can’t back to the room to start winding down. I gotta say it was a great first day and I got to surf cloudbreak which was even better!!
