I have been really looking forward to this trip. One of the reasons why is that I travel by myself. Part of that is due to timing with other friends and the other part is for selfish reasons (me wanting to do what I want to do when I want to do it).
So Pat and Phil picked me up at about 2:45pm-2:50pm and we left for the airport. Even by my standards that’s a bit early (we had a 6:10pm flight) but I wasn’t going to complain. We got to the airport and checked in fairly quickly thanks to Pat checking the line for web check in’s. Otherwise the wait would have been atrocious.
After we went through security and sat down at our gate I decided to walk around and see what food options we had and how much they were. As expected everything was pretty expensive so I decided to go to Starbucks since I had some money on my card. I got what I now know to be a filthy chai which is a dirty chai (chai and espresso shot) with an add shot of espresso.
Our flight was supposed to board around 5:40pm but that was delayed a bit. Once we boarded the flight I thought we would take off fairly quickly but our takeoff was also delayed. Not sure by how much but I didn’t mind much. The in flight entertainment was actually pretty good so I started watching the new Point Break. I found it to be entertaining…but that’s all I’ll say about that. We were in for 12+ hours and I was looking forward to seeing some new movies 🙂
I also watched Batman vs Superman which was better than I expected and Daddy’s home. I was hoping that Walking Dead season 6 would be available but it wasn’t.
For dinner we had eggplant in tomato sauce with cheese, ravioli with cheese, chicken, and eggplant, some kind of cake, and a dinner roll which was pretty good!!
I had some trouble getting to sleep but once I did I was out for at least a couple of hours.
I woke up to the sound of the food cart coming down the aisle and we were served a breakfast of runny eggs and some other items but the runny eggs turned me off and I refused to eat anything on my plate.
We had another couple of hours before we landed in Istanbul.
Once we arrived we had to disembark the plane, get on a bus, and shuttle to the terminal. The terminal was filled with people bustling about. We checked the gate information and we didn’t see anything so we sat down. Knowing that we had a couple of hours to kill I looked around for some water and a little bit of food since I hadn’t really had breakfast. I ended up getting charged 25 Turkish lira for a bottle that was 5 Turkish lira…I tried to reason with the guy but he didn’t say anything so I gave up and paid what he asked and also got a pizza that wasn’t very good.
An hour before our flight we finally got our gate information and we headed on over. Not only did we board Kate but we also took off late as well. Guess this beginning to be a trend…knowing that we didn’t have much time I watched something but I can’t remember what.
We arrived in Amman at about 12:15am, had to change money and pay for a visa, and pick up our baggage which put us around 1:30 or so. I looked for our driver but didn’t see one right away. Luckily I saw him and we were off to our hotel. Our driver Basel
