Monday, June 4, 2012 – Good morning!!  I hope you all had a great weekend and welcome to another great week!!  So the trial period for the noise reduction software I was using, Imagenomic’s Noiseware Professional finally ran out.  I planned on downloading Nik’s DFINE or Noise Ninja since I have heard good things about each of those products.  I ended up downloading the photoshop plugin for Noise Ninja but like the plugin for Noiseware it left a grid on my image.  I tried looking for the standalone program but couldn’t find it so I gave up on the idea and decided to read another blog that rated NR software.  You can read about the comparison here if you are interested.  From that test Noiseware rated one point above Nik’s DFINE and that was enough to push me to buy the software.  Not to mention the fact that he had 20% off on his site!!  So I am the happy owner of NR software!!

In my last post I mentioned some problems I was having processing a single tiff file in Photomtix.  After emailing support I found out that there was an option to check in preferences named “prompt whether to reduce noise”…Dangit.  I thought I went through the preferences.  In any event that issue was resolved and that helps my workflow immensely.  I also changed camera bodies recently and was having problems with orientation with the 32 bit hdr file.  I found that after I updated the software that it changed my preferences which usually never happens.   So I think that I am out of the woods in terms of problems with software (for the time being) and seemed to be having problems with my new camera body in terms of dust or grime on the sensor.  The first set of images I took were unusable and worried me quite a bit.  I just shot another set of images over the weekend and while I had to use the spot healing brush a little more than I might have expected I am happy with the end result.  Take a look!!
